Building My Brand Through Video

This week, I took the opportunity to sit down and define this brand’s purpose a little better by making a video. I started this website as a project to help other content creators learn tips and tricks that I have picked up along the way.

For this shoot, I pulled out my A-camera and my B-camera to capture a couple different perspectives for my talking head footage. I used the XA-40 for a head-on shot and placed the D5200 at a lower side angle to capture a different perspective. This helped break up the monotony of a single talking head angle since I could switch between the two shots.

Editing was done in Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 using several audio and video tracks. My total edit time was around three hours after filming was done. It honestly took me longer to find a suitable audio track, but once I did, I felt my inspiration to begin editing. It always seems like I get that spark to create once I’ve selected my sound track, never before.

I pulled b-roll footage from all sorts of other projects in my collection such as “NC or Bust” and “The History of the Gentex SHG: Stories of Change.” I also dug through some of my oldest videos to illustrate some of my first exploratory work with a camera as I recounted the story of my first camera.

This project was a fun and reflective look back at why I’ve come down this path and the work that it has taken to get to this point. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, my goal as a camera operator is to use my craft to see my own personal growth in life. I believe that this website and these projects will allow me to take an even deeper dive into the person I’ve become and how I arrived here.

Have you ever done a project like this before? If you have, feel free to share it in the comments below!
